School Insurance Costs Held for a Third Year as French Families Face Back-to-School Spending

French families preparing for the start of the 2026 school year will face a familiar list of expenses, from stationery and clothing to school meals, transport and extracurricular activities. Against that backdrop, French school insurer MAE has decided to keep its school insurance premiums unchanged for a third consecutive year.

The decision applies as some 11.6 million children are expected to return to school in September. MAE’s school insurance policies range from €13 a year for its basic Scolaire Simple product to €39 a year for the 24/24 Plus option, which extends protection beyond school hours.

The insurer’s document points to annual inflation of 2.1% in July 2026, citing figures from French statistics agency Insee, and presents the decision to hold prices as part of an effort to limit additional pressure on household budgets.
